This king oyster mushroom recipe highlights the natural meaty texture of the mushrooms with a simple pan-seared method. Finished with garlic, herbs, butter, and a touch of lemon, it makes a versatile side dish for weeknight dinners or special meals.
Ingredients
- 4 king oyster mushrooms
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon chopped parsley
Instructions
- Clean the king oyster mushrooms with a damp paper towel and trim the ends. Slice them lengthwise into thick pieces.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the mushroom slices in a single layer and cook for 3 to 4 minutes per side, until golden and lightly crisp at the edges.
- Reduce the heat to medium. Add the butter and garlic, then cook for 30 seconds, stirring gently so the garlic does not burn.
- Season with thyme, salt, and black pepper. Toss to coat the mushrooms evenly.
- Turn off the heat and finish with lemon juice and chopped parsley.
- Serve immediately as a side dish, over rice, or alongside grilled proteins.
