This cheesy gratin potatoes recipe is rich, cozy, and perfect for family dinners, holidays, or any meal that needs a comforting side dish. Thinly sliced potatoes are layered with garlic cream, butter, and cheese, then baked until tender inside and beautifully golden on top.

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F and lightly butter a baking dish.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the cream, milk, garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Warm gently until steaming, but do not boil.
  3. Arrange half of the potato slices in the baking dish, slightly overlapping them.
  4. Pour half of the warm cream mixture over the potatoes, then sprinkle with half of the Gruyere and Parmesan.
  5. Repeat with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheeses.
  6. Dot the top with the butter and cover the dish with foil.
  7. Bake for 40 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for 15 to 20 minutes more, until the top is golden and the potatoes are tender.
  8. Let rest for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with parsley if desired.
