A classic beef burger is one of the easiest and most satisfying homemade meals. With well-seasoned ground beef, a hot pan or grill, and a lightly toasted bun, you can create a juicy burger with great flavor in very little time. Add your favorite toppings and serve it with fries, salad, or roasted vegetables for a complete meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground beef, preferably 80/20
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp ground black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 4 burger buns
- 4 slices cheddar cheese, optional
- 1 tbsp butter or oil, for toasting the buns
- Lettuce, tomato slices, onion slices, and pickles, optional
- Ketchup, mustard, or mayonnaise, optional
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently until just combined; do not overwork the meat.
- Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into patties about 3/4 inch thick. Press a small indentation in the center of each patty to help them cook evenly.
- Preheat a skillet or grill over medium-high heat. Lightly oil the surface if needed.
- Cook the patties for 3 to 5 minutes on the first side, then flip and cook for another 3 to 4 minutes for medium doneness, or until they reach your preferred level of doneness.
- If using cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of cooking and cover briefly to melt.
- Toast the burger buns with butter or oil until golden.
- Assemble the burgers by placing the patties on the buns and adding your desired toppings and sauces.
- Serve immediately while hot and juicy.
