Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/2 cup tomato sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1/2 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1/2 small red onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
- 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1/4 cup black olives, sliced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil for brushing
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let sit for 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, mix the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, then stir until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 6 to 8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 45 to 60 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 475 F. If using a pizza stone or steel, place it in the oven while preheating.
- Punch down the dough and roll it out into a large circle or rectangle, depending on your pan or stone.
- Transfer the dough to a baking sheet or pizza peel. Spread the tomato sauce evenly over the surface and sprinkle with oregano.
- Top with mozzarella, bell peppers, onion, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, and olives. Season with black pepper and brush the crust with olive oil.
- Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
- Remove from the oven, let rest for 2 minutes, slice, and serve warm.
