A classic quiche is a versatile savory tart made with a crisp crust and a creamy egg filling. This version is simple, elegant, and ideal for brunch, lunch, or a light supper. You can enjoy it plain or customize it with cheese, vegetables, or cooked bacon.
Ingredients
- 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1 cup shredded Gruyere or Swiss cheese
- 1/2 cup cooked bacon or sautéed vegetables
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon chopped chives or parsley
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375 F. Place the pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish and crimp the edges if desired.
- Prick the bottom of the crust lightly with a fork. Pre-bake for 8 minutes, then remove from the oven.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, cream, milk, salt, pepper, and nutmeg until smooth.
- Spread the cheese and the cooked filling of your choice evenly over the crust.
- Pour the egg mixture carefully into the crust. Sprinkle with chives or parsley.
- Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the center is just set and the top is lightly golden.
- Let the quiche rest for at least 10 minutes before slicing and serving warm or at room temperature.
