This homemade Yum Yum Sauce is smooth, creamy, slightly sweet, and lightly tangy with a gentle hint of spice. Inspired by the classic steakhouse-style sauce, it is quick to prepare and versatile enough for grilled meats, seafood, vegetables, fries, rice bowls, and sandwiches. A short rest in the fridge helps the flavors blend and gives the sauce its signature rich taste.
Ingredients
- 1 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper, optional
- 2 to 4 tablespoons water, as needed for desired consistency
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, ketchup, tomato paste, rice vinegar, sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper if using.
- Add 2 tablespoons of water and whisk until smooth.
- Continue adding water a little at a time until the sauce reaches your preferred consistency.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning, adding a little more sugar for sweetness or vinegar for brightness if desired.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving so the flavors can meld.
- Serve chilled as a dipping sauce, drizzle, or spread.
