Ingredients
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup plain yogurt, at room temperature
- 1/2 cup warm milk
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon melted butter, for brushing
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
- Add the yogurt, warm milk, olive oil, and egg. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for 8 to 10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. If needed, add a little more flour, one tablespoon at a time.
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
- Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan or shape it free-form on a baking tray.
- Cover and let it rise again for 25 to 30 minutes, until puffy.
- Preheat the oven to 375 F.
- Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
- Brush the top with melted butter and let the bread cool on a rack before slicing.
