This Alfredo sauce is rich, silky, and ready in minutes. Made with butter, garlic, cream, and Parmesan cheese, it creates a smooth, comforting sauce that clings beautifully to pasta. It also works well with chicken, vegetables, gnocchi, or as a base for baked dishes. For the best texture, use freshly grated Parmesan and keep the heat low so the sauce stays glossy and smooth.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, or to taste
- Pinch of ground nutmeg, optional
- 2 tablespoons chopped parsley, optional, for serving
Instructions
- Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium-low heat.
- Add the minced garlic and cook for 30 to 60 seconds, just until fragrant. Do not let it brown.
- Pour in the heavy cream and stir gently. Bring the mixture to a very gentle simmer.
- Reduce the heat to low and add the Parmesan cheese a little at a time, whisking until smooth and fully melted.
- Season with salt, black pepper, and nutmeg if using.
- Simmer for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring often, until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Remove from the heat and serve immediately over hot pasta, chicken, or vegetables. Finish with chopped parsley if desired.
